I chose 17" winter alloys. In fact it's a point to choose quite narrow wheels for winter to retain that precious grip (just watch the WRC guys' equipment when wringing it out on snowy & icy roads - the wheels look like something borrowed from a wheelbarrow). A bit more rubber to smooth out rough winter roads is also wise to consider in my opinion. Does it look good on my M sport? Depends, but I really cannot say that the weels look out of place. And safety of driving is more important to me during winter than appearance anyway.
But of course our Nordic climate is a bit more demanding compared with what you UK guys experience.
