HPFP is the high pressure fuel pump and there are not a high amount of failures with these pumps on the 35i's. I have read hundreds of post over the past year on this and other X3 forums and I have only seen on person report a failure of a HPFP. Even if the 35i you drove doesn't have the sport buttons you can still slide the gearshift to the left to put the transmission into sport mode and let it rip.
