I had been adjusting my mirrors incorrectly since I started driving 20 years ago. I always set them so I could see the side of my car. Back in October when I took delivery of my X3 at the BMW performance center, one of the instructors told us how to adjust the mirrors similarly to the way described in the article linked above. It felt very strange at first but I adjusted to it quickly and it is amazing how much of a difference it makes by reducing the blind spot.
