I think there must be some security measure trying really, really hard not to turn the engine off and shut the car if there is a remote chance of it happening for the owner of the car.. ie key battery running out, and that sort of things...

So perhaps it knows the car hasn't been "parked" and the original driver is still around.. ? that what I would try to aim for if I was writing software at BMW ;-)
