I think that BMW itself is waiting hear back from Takada on how much they are impacted by the recall. Since the recall was actually issued by the airbag manufacturer and not the vehicle manufacturer it will probably take longer for us to find out. Takada will need to isolate what batch of airbag models were responsible for the shrapnel (at this point they don't even know the root cause) and then trace where all the lots shipped. Couple that with the sheer scope of the impending recall--I recall that there are about 33.8 million serial numbers involved--I would say it will be a few months at least. Until then we'll need to continue revisiting the safercar.gov site to check in as their list grows. In this morning's news I saw that BMW was one of the manufacturers that Takada supplied to.
