Auto-hold does work but I don't always remember to turn it on. Rather annoying it doesn't remember last setting.
What difference is P mode to Neutral on the shifter?
I tried again just now parking on a level space outside Wickes. Engaged parking brake, set gearstick to P and as I lifted my foot off the brake pedal there was a definite lurch. Not as prominent as the scenario I mentioned in my OP and may not actually be the car moving but the brakes biting. But still feels weird to me coming from a manual car.
