All modern cars have this 'feature'. Comes from the removal of asbestos and the need to change the disc material.

Mostly appears when disc are wet but still cold. ie probably not after driving a few miles in the rain and using brakes. Heavy condensation nights will often trigger it.

After washing car, take it out and dry the brakes - go far enough to warm up engine to avoid filling the exhaust with water condensate from a cold engine.
