I too would never have thought of this option, but I drove two different cars (one with the stock 18's and one with 19's) and the difference in the car with the DHP and without was quite substantial.
I am not a racer and don't drive THAT fast (well not yet at least - as I have not taken delivery quite yet of my X3 35i), but where I live there are some great twisties (somewhat ruined by the snowplows, etc...) and the DHP would make it that much more fun.
Also, there was a chart a while back on this board about the DHP Normal setting being slightly softer than the stock suspension and that was important to me. Maybe not others but to me it was important.
