They also don't discuss this in advance (when you order a car) probably because if you have time to review the terms and costs and then comparison shop (I'm sure you can purchase this insurance elsewhere) most people would probably decline it. They want to put you in a situation where it is an impulse decision.
They wouldn't be selling it if there wasn't some profit for the dealer.
