Fully loaded or fully standard...
It boiled down to a couple things for me... gas mileage (though the D is a nice option for the X5)... then it came down to fully loading the X3 vs a fully standard X5.
Yeah, I see some of the "looks" differences you're talking about, but it was more important to me to get a car fully loaded with what I wanted than what I consider slightly better looks. The M-X5 is a powerful, awesome looking vehicle... but it's also way out of my price range (probably about $20-$25K more).
Plus my wife and I are both under 6' tall... The X3 fits us, our lifestyle, I love the looks... Oh, and there will always be a better looking, faster car out there...
