Weight. I think the E90 325 was about 900 lbs lighter than an X3. That makes a huge difference. Also the X3 has more suspension travel thus braking in normal cases is rear biased. While the E90, being much more sporty, can afford to distribute brake force more evenly due to the tighter suspension and being less prone to squat at the front end.
