Very risky in a public car park .... IF someone did discover the key ...... I think the insurance would be invalidated for the theft ! ....
In the US, insurance protects the owner. In many cases, people who lease cars are not the owner. Or, the finance company holds title until the car is paid off. Either way, the finance company is a loss payee on the policy.


So, in the US, if someone does something stupid, short of outright damaging your vehicle, you will be covered.
