I dont think BMW recommand against wheel alignment, wheel aglignmnet is more of an corrective maintenance rather than routine maintenance. I dont believe any car manufacturer recommand a wheel alignment on a regular basis. Also, BMW recommanded against tire rotation before this whole free maintenance program came about, so its not a financial decision rather than a iddue with the camber angle where BMW want a full tire contact patch on the road for max. traction.
