Yes, the paddels still respond to upshifts & downshifts in normal mode.
It does not eliminate traction control. It activates DTC (Dynamic Traction Control), which is a less restrictive setting of BMW's typical traction control settings. Think of DTC as a video game setting; when DTC is off, all assists are on (amateur), but when DTC is on, only some assists are on (intermediate). With DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) off, all assists are off (advanced).
