Bought wifeys 2 yrs ago up in Chantilly VA (I'm in Dallas) from BMW dealer. CPO - got tons of pics, so I saw the bumps ahead of time. $750 and 3 days later (and a bank transfer) it gets dropped off 1 block from my house.
My z4 I bought in Pittsburgh. Had my niece test drive (dumb luck, she was at PITT), flew up and wifey and I drove it home over a weekend.
Happens all the time now - don't let the distance scare you.
