I have the OEM roof rack and want to put a bike and kayak carrier on it.

Do I need to get the OEM ones, or can I get a thule or yakima carrier? If so, how do I figure out which type to get as I don't have the thule or yakima base system.

I would think BMW did not make this rack, one of the other guys did and it is just relabeled by bmw?
