The short answer is that the X3's tailgate is nothing near to quiet in its closing action or sound. Of course, one man's noisy is another man's acceptable, but based on my experience it's nothing near as smooth as closing the other doors. Even with the auto tailgate on mine, it closes with a fairly noisy thud.
