Others were able to do it for the 3 series, but I am not sure if the coding would be the same for the X3.

In either case, at least for now, since it hasn't been approved by the DOT, while unlikely, it could create problems for you if it were implemented. Personally, I think it is really neat tech, and if I had laser based headlights or a system that could support the feature, I'd want their full functionality, too.
