bmw.com/update site would not accept my 7 digit VIN until I took delivery (makes sense I guess). It was manufactured late Dec-2012 into Jan-2013 (due to holiday shutdown). The plate on the driver's side says: 1/2013. My current software in iDrive says 003.004.031. When I enter the VIN on the web site, it allows download of UPD01006.bin which presumably takes it to 3.5.5 (maybe 3.5.6). Is my s/w above really 3.4.31 (dropping the leading zeros) and would that mean my current installed s/w is older? Why wouldn't my X3 have been produced with the latest s/w? Maybe the module was pre-loaded with the software some time ago before final assembly? Should I do the update?
