Bungees do not work well for holding down a trunk lid. I would recommend rope or denting the furniture.
As far as the power trunk lid, if you cannot over ride it, you might try disabling it by pulling its fuse.
What good is an SA(U)V if you can't try to stuff some over size furniture in it!
