You made the right decision. I too checked out the Evoque. Looks great at first sight. Then, after a while, it just looks like a pancaked Freelander. It is quite claustrophobic inside. Then I checked the web for "problems". Oh dear. Yep, at the end of day it has the same reliability problems of all land rovers with an appalling number of "fatal" problems.
