Been there - done that!

Went to one of the dealers I'm talking to and drove an X3 28 and a 535xi.

The X3 had 20" wheels and it felt like the castor and toe in were out of alignment. the primary ride was also not great. You hit a ridge or drain cover and you really notice it.

The 535xi was pretty impressive. It felt very well put together. Primary ride was good but it understeers - you really can't steer with the gas pedal at all. The engine is very smooth, but you don't really feel the power come in until you have at least 4000 rpm showing. That engine in the next generation 3 Series would be a pretty nice car if it's lighter than 4000 lbs.
