I did not know that! Are you sure it is the nav system that knows this? Is this documented anywhere? For this to happen it needs to be embedded in the UK map data such as NBT 2016-1 (Pro Nav).
From what I have seen from pictures some time ago of the nav screen in the US, the speed limits are displayed, but this information is/was picked up by a small onboard camera. Perhaps this is all to do with limiting the speed in other markets and not UK.
