I think the concern stems from the cute-ute craze.
The x3 isn't a replacement or competitor for the rav4, crv, escape, rx350 which the 'soccer moms' drive. The x3 is in my opinion is a tall rear drive sport wagon that typically isn't seen parked at walmart in amongst the minivans.
