R&T is correct there is no detent when the directional signal is turned on like a "normal" directional signal. There is a resistance point that if pushed past, turns the signal on as opposed to just flashing it if you don't go past the resistance point. In either case the signal stalk immediately returns to the center position when released.

This is a real pain for someone who is actually committed to using directional signals since you don't get the audible click and movement of the stalk when the signal shuts off which allows you to restart the signal quickly when needed.

Think of it as a directional signal designed by a 12 year old video game player who has only used a joystick and never driven a real car.
