I had the same problem. Didn't solve it. I think I remember someone said the wrong software had been associated with the download at BMW's end hence why it wouldn't work in the car. i.e. a problem with the file, not the USB stick.
Now however, the BMW Update page no longer recognises my VIN as even having software that's updateable. Previously it either said something like 'Up to date' or, as it did when started this thread, 'here's an update for you'; now all I get is 'this page is for folks with software, numpty' (I'm paraphrasing a little).
Does everyone else's still work OK?
