There are a number of challenges to this. The main one is different underlying mapping data. BMW uses Teleatlas (owned by TomTom), Google use a verity of sources. In the USA it is their own, Europe a mixture including Europa Technologies, Teleatlas and maybe others.
If directions from Google Maps included a road that was not in the BMW teleatlas system then the route couldn't be replicated. Thats not to say it couldn't just default to working it out itself like it does now based on the destination. I also dont know there is any agreement between providers on how to define a route. Agree would be a nice feature, but is harder to do.
