I’ve been looking for some 245/45-18 snow tires and although there are plenty of regular (non run-flats) available in the US including Michelin X-Ice X-12’s at USD 182. The only run-flat I found was the Dunlop SP Sport 3D at USD 270 so the total extra cost of the run-flats is about USD 352 per set.

A pressurized sealant can like Tire Weld or Fix-a-Flat can work in an emergency, but has the reputation of rendering the tire impossible to balance.

Another possibility to consider is to carry a small 12V. compressor and a rubber/fiber plug kit. I’ve used these before with perfect results. Of course, if a tire picks up a nail while the wife is driving, the run-flats would be an infinitely better decision!
