It uses the same screen! My 2013 (63 plate) X3 xDrive 30d M Sport has it fitted.

There might well be more to it, because mine also has the cameras fitted to the wing mirrors and when reverse is selected the sides of the car and behind it can be seen. When they are in operation, there are selections in iDrive to switch on/off the directional/angle lines where the car can be maneuvered.

If you find carrying out a retrofit too costly or impossible to do for various reasons, there is a very high quality front and rear dash-cam system (LUKAS LK 9750 DUO Pro) that is supposed to be very good for reversing. There is a video on the web of it being used as such. As soon as I locate it, I will post it.
