Replacements will be Pirelli Cinturato P7 A/S RFT 245/55 R17, retailing at about $100 more per tire than the ones on it. The explanation was that tires for the US market have an additional steel strip in them to deal with an electricity "issue" created by toll booths. Sounds kinda silly to me, but since the tires are essentially the same, I'm not going to fuss about it. Bad news someone pulled the wrong tires out of the bin; good news for quality control that someone figured it out I guess. And it sounds like a "one off" problem, the continuing strange saga of my X3. A friend gave me an "evil eye" charm for it....
