Did the same on my car but from waxing it with Maguires Gold Class wax. The paint looks great, but it does leave nasty light marks on the black plastic. Tried various cleaners with very little or no effect. The Maguires really sticks (which makes it a good coating for paint, but not so good where it touches the black plastic. Finally tried Eagle 1 Trim Protector Gel. Completely removes or covers the "wax stains" and leaves a very nice satin finish on the black plastic. Not too shiny.
Haven't tried the Mother's product, but most of their waxes and polishes perform well.
Love the Eagle 1 Gel. It's easy to put on and easily wipes off the paint, since it's impossible to coat the plastic without getting something on the paint.
