This doesn't apply to the 2017 model year with the updated navigation system that is compatible with Carplay. I have one in my 35i and it uses 4G. The original 4 yr subscription on the vehicle for CD expired at the end of June and I was able to purchase another year of real time traffic and remote services without issue.
