I buy a "kit" from my dealer. BMW oil, BMW filter (with O-rings and metal drain washer). I have record with the dealer of what oil & filter I purchased so they have no reason to say I used the wrong components. For me, the price difference between non-BMW parts and BMW parts is not worth the extra peace of mind of just going BMW. Especially for an oil change every 7500 mi.
If I buy the BMW oil and filter, I found getting it from my local dealer is cheaper than online.
