I had exact same thing happened to me.
I think it is a common problem for X3.
It is more noticeable when you park at a slope, where water can gather on the front.
It happens because there is a problem in the moon roof drainage.
You can go to BMW center and they can fix it in a day.
I took it and they had carpet dried and have the drainage fixed within one day.
