not necessarily true. any knowledgeable engine tuner can extract power from an engine with little or no effects on the longevity of the engine. here in the US we see a lot of "hotrodded" Diesel trucks, running 250k-300k (i dunno, somthing like 450k-600k km) miles without needed any sort of overhaul.

so long as it's done properly, keeping tabs on the A/F ratio, and EGT's, you won't suffer damage on those engines. hell, diesel engines can run on straight vegetable oil (seen it) and run well. those things can take one helluva beating.
