To add a bit of value to this thread rather than leave it with pedantic responses:

Up to 1200 miles do not not exceed 100mph/93mph 4500rpm/3500rpm (petrol/diesel), avoid full throttle and don't use auto trans kick down.

Or as I put it originally, take it easy for the first 1000 miles.

What the dealers and others mean by "not really a break-in period" is with reference to new cars in the past which had much stricter guidelines than just don't drive over 100mph.

If you follow the manual to the letter you should also drive moderately for the first 200 miles with any new tyres and for the first 300 miles with new brakes, but I doubt many people do
