@sf2360, i believe you can't just unplug the actuator. Because by default it is in closed position. The actuator will create a vacuum to open the flap.
So, in order to let it open, either do a golf tee mod to physically hold the flap open or supply a constant 12v to the actuator to create a vacuum. Don't quote me on the voltage, but it should be in my opinion.
Golf tee mod should be the way, since constant voltage will wear the actuator prematurely.
