Personally I avoid insurance where I believe the relative value of the potential payout is low compared to the insurance premium.
I did not take the Gap (my motor insurance covers the 1st year anyway) or tyre insurance offered. Don't think an extended warranty was offered in the UK?

The insurance companies pay all of their operating costs - rents/commission/wages etc etc and keep a healthy profit, all out of our premiums.

It is a risk if you do not take insurance - but as long as you have weighed up the issues be happy with your decision.
