I wonder if it's just that the N20 has to work a bit harder? Maybe there aren't many N20s that are really broken in? I know our motor livened up a bit and efficiency increased after 10k miles.
We have come to a similar conclusion the other side other pond with diesel 2.0 & 3.0 X3's, very little in it. We seem to get high 30's if pressing on and high 40's if taking it easy.
I've had a couple of gental runs over 50mpg in my 3.0D but overall I'm getting 42. I like to keep checking the speed limiter is still working at 130mph
